I love free motion quilting words into quilts. I think it speaks life into a quilt so to speak. You can see The Pattern That Changed My Life and how I quilted in words from important women in my life. The limitless quilt was no different.
It started off a little rocky (LOL!) that you can see below.
I wanted to add Bible quotes that related to stars that was the theme of my quilt. I chose the quotes and used free motion quilting to add them to the quilt. Below is one of my favorite videos to practice adding words.
Cursive writing is EASY! Now that doesn't come without practice but really with connected letters they are easy to write and then go over. Practicing on a sandwich really helps get the feel for the letters.
I love to use these pens to easily erase away marks left on your quilt. It is easy to write, sew, then iron off and they leave no trace behind.
Here is the variegated metallic thread I used for these quotes. Super easy to work with and loved the effect! It is literally called "variegated" in this metallic thread pack.
If the stars were made to worship so will I. |
Metallic thread can be tricky but here's my best tips for working with metallic thread! I really liked how quick this came together and how I had no trouble at all making it happen!
Psalm 147:4 You placed the stars in the sky and you know them by name. |
It's not good news it's the BEST NEWS EVER! |
TextTile Studio came out with this line of quilting/pieced letters that I knew I had to incorporate! I especially loved that it wasn't outright letters but was more like a puzzle and once you see it you can't "unsee" it. LIMITLESS was the name of the song that was embroidered throughout the quilt. I think it captures the "essence" of the quilt and the strong message I wanted to get across.
God's love is limitless! The star/galaxy metaphor is how it is expressed.
I really think the contrasting fabric and words "ingrained" add so much to the quilt itself.
Onto the next piece....
Hi Amber! Oh, this is a wonderful post. God is wonderful and His love is limitless. I love writing on a quilting, especially something so meaningful. Thank you for inspiring me today. ~smile~ Roseanne
ReplyDeleteRoseanne,
DeleteThank you so much for your sweet comment! I can tell we resonate on the same level. I have loved every aspect of this quilt and can't wait to finally show it all put together! :) Got to get the quilting done and then binding!
Nice work! I, too, love including cursive writing in my quilts and love metallic thread! Thanks for linking up with TGIFF.
ReplyDeleteSandra - so nice to meet you! Another kindred soul with cursive writing in quilts and metallic thread! I used to be a teacher so we really have some common interests! Thanks so much for stopping by!
